How the same-day stem cell procedure works

1. Fat harvesting
The procedure starts by collecting a small amount of your own fat through a minimally invasive draw, usually from the lower abdomen or flank. This step uses local anesthesia only — there is no general anesthesia and no operating room, and you stay awake throughout.
According to Amedsi: the amount collected is modest — on the order of about 100 cc — and the draw itself takes only a portion of the visit. Individual experience varies, and the exact approach is decided by the clinical team for each person.
2. On-site preparation
During the same visit, the fat sample is processed inside the clinic to concentrate the cell-rich portion used for treatment. Nothing is sent to an outside lab, cultured over days, or frozen for a later appointment — preparation and treatment happen in one sitting.
3. Targeted injection, same visit
Once prepared, the cell-rich material is injected the same day into the area being treated — for example a knee, shoulder, hip, or the lower back, or into the scalp for hair thinning. Placement is done by the clinical team based on your assessment, again under local anesthetic.
Treating more than one area in a single visit is possible and lengthens this step.
4. Recovery and downtime
Because there is no surgical incision in an operating room, there is no hospital stay. After a short observation period you go home the same day with aftercare guidance covering activity, soreness at the harvest and injection sites, and what to watch for.
